Rooster Shows Off app for iPhone and iPad

Designed by Canadian literacy professionals, the Rooster Shows Off app is an ideal way for emerging readers to practise their literacy skills. Based on the Level 3 book published by Riverdale Readers Inc., the app provides three game-based literacy activities that are linked to the text—but it can also stand alone as a fun way for children to hone their skills.

The games cover the key areas of phonics, comprehension and word work, and feature the early sight words that kids need to know.

• Sight Word Matching Game
Touch one card to turn it over and touch another to try and find the matching word. Once a game board is complete, the level of difficulty gradually increases and more games follow.

• Sequencing Activity
Rooster slides down the barn roof, flies through the air, falls in the water, and gets saved by the horse. Click and drag the pictures to put them in the correct order to tell the story.

• Fill in the Blanks
Children use their knowledge of first-letter sounds to choose the correct word to complete the sentence. The appealing graphics will give them a clue, too!
